ADVISORY COUNCIL
This committee is comprised of
primary and secondary advisors and advisory team members
of area collegiate chapters under the auspices of Dallas
Alumnae, members who aspire to become advisors and/or
have an interest in promoting collegiate
affairs.
ARTS AND LETTERS
The committee should stimulate
interest in/and to educate the members in the area of
Arts and Letters. In doing so, the committee promotes an
awareness of the various fields of artistic endeavors.
It also serves to encourage the development of
individuals and collective skills in the liberal arts
and showcases those who possess special talents which
contribute to an increased appreciation of the artistic
beauty around us. Such support of those individuals and
organizations who foster artistic and related
disciplines have been displayed in the following past
programs:
- Young Artist Renaissance -
The purpose of the event was to encourage, promote and
demonstrate artistic talents of our youth in the areas
of dance, storytelling, writing, drama, and visual
arts. Professional artisans facilitated
workshops.
- Commemorate Women’s History
Month - A reception was held to
honor and encourage women who are making their mark in
the Arts. This event was held at the historical
African-American Museum in Fair Park. The category for
recognition included Drama, Playwright/Director,
Gospel Music, and Praise Dance.
- Promote Project Cherish -
This activity is a National Preservation &
Beautification Program of African American Landmarks,
monuments, and historic sites. Previous Project
Cherish activities include Memorial Services/Ledger at
Founder Frederica Chase Dodd’s grave site, Portrait of
Founder Frederica Chase Dodd dedicated to Maria Morgan
YWCA, Recognized New Hope Baptist Church as a Project
Cherish Site and home of Founder Frederica Chase
Dodd.
AUDIT
This committee is responsible for
reviewing, making recommendations, and preparation of
financial records to be forwarded to external auditors.
The committee is comprised of three members appointed by
the Chapter President who will bring to the attention of
the Chapter any financial irregularities that are not in
accordance with National Constitution and Bylaws and the
local chapter’s policies and procedures on a quarterly
basis.
BUDGET AND
FINANCE
The Budget & Finance Committee
integrates into one expense budget all committee
requests and projected Chapter expenses. The budget
Committee submits recommendations to the Chapter
concerning financial matters. The committee is composed
of the elected General chairperson, Treasurer, Financial
Secretary, Financial Assistant and voluntary
members.
CHAPTER RULES OF ORDER/CHAPTER
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
This committee is responsible for
the review, edit and formatting of policies and
procedures previously approved by the Chapter for
compilation in the Chapter rules of order and policies.
The committee should submit recommendations to Executive
Board for new section in the document to address orderly
transacting of chapter business as
required.
DELTA DEARS
This committee is comprised of
Deltas 62 years or older whom we most cherish. Some of
the committee past activities include:
- Serving as hostesses for the Christmas Charity
Gala
- Providing loyal support and assisting with the
administration and management of Delta
Duds
- Visiting homebound members
- Recognition program luncheon to share various
accomplishments and events of Delta
Dears
DELTA FAMILY AND FRIENDS
This committee is responsible for
coordinating activities of the Delta Mothers &
Friends and the Gems & Jewels.
Delta
Mother & Friends
Affiliate
group composed of mothers and friends of chapter
members. Past activities include:
- Providing baskets for needy at
Christmas
- Recognition Program for Past Presidents of
Delta mothers and friends, sponsors, oldest members,
and length of service.
- Health Fair Assistance
- Self-protection Seminar
- Delta Duds Assistance
- Joint fellowship with the sorority at an end of
the year event
Gems & Jewels
This
committee is composed of chapter members' children,
grandchildren, God children, nieces and nephews between
the ages of 2 - 12. Many activities are planned for them
throughout the Sorority year. The activities are
designed to introduce our children to each other, teach
them social graces, and to develop an appreciation for
the community service nature of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc.
ELECTION
The
Elections Committee is comprised of seven chapter
members appointed by the Executive Committee. This
committee is responsible for conducting the election
process for the Chapter.
EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE
The Chapter President shall serve as the General
chairperson. It is composed of the seven (7) top elected
officers of the Chapter. The top seven elected officers
are the Chapter's President, Vice - President,
Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Assistant Recording
Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Financial
Secretary.

EXECUTIVE
BOARD
Composed of all elected/appointed
officers, immediate past president, and committee
general chairpersons. Meet a minimum of once a quarter
(every three months). The meeting at the close of the
sorority year for evaluation purposes and to exchange
properties between outgoing and incoming
officers.
FOUNDERS DAY
This committee is responsible for
planning and implementing appropriate activities during
the months of January and/or February commemorating the
founding of our organization.
HERITAGE AND
ARCHIVES
Commemorate the history of events
of Dallas Alumnae Chapter during 2005-2007 and to mark
significant milestones which will be useful for future
reference. To present and preserve the events of the
sorority for a time span of two years in scrap book
format. Past events include Mayweek "Our History - Our
Heritage - Our Hope". A culminating event of the
sorority year highlighting programs of Dallas Alumnae
Sorority Committees.
HOUSING AND
PROPERTIES
Maintains a safe and central
repository for the Chapter's properties. Makes sure that
properties are set up in ritualistic style for each
chapter meeting and ritualistic
ceremony.
INFORMATION AND
COMMUNICATIONS
This committee is responsible for
providing an up-to-date communication and information
system that will allow members of the Chapters to
receive information timely and efficiency. The committee
should provide verbal communication to the Chapter
between mailings and meetings.
INTERNATIONAL AWARENESS AND
INVOLVEMENT
This committee is responsible for
keeping the Chapter abreast of ongoing issues related to
our African-American heritage abroad. To develop a
network and awareness between other
cultures.
JABBERWOCK
An event unique to Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc. The first Jabberwock was presented
in 1925 in Boston, Mass. In an effort to find a new
method of raising money for her chapter’s scholarship
fund, Marion Conover Hope of Iota Chapter first
conceived of the ideal of a show during which the
talents of groups and individuals could be demonstrated
in a variety of ways. She called this new kind of show a
"Jabberwock", a title taken from Lewis Carroll’s tale,
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.In keeping with the
original purpose of Jabberwock, Dallas Alumnae Chapter
uses it as a major fundraising event. Its objective is
to make contributions to the community, (i.e., college
scholarships and community outreach). This committee is
responsible for coordinating Jabberwock
activities.
MEMBERSHIP
SERVICES
The Membership Services Committee
is responsible for promoting sisterly fellowship among
chapter members, provide special services to members,
conducting reclamation/retention activities, membership
intake when approved by the Chapter, and any other
activities that are directed by Grand Chapter. The
Vice-President services as the committee chairperson.The
committee should review the following items/activities
for consideration when planning sisterly fellowship and
reclamation/retention activities:
- Organizing reclamation activities to reclaim
inactive Deltas in the area. Initiates chapter
activities to motivate, stimulate and rejuvenate
member participation.
- Prepares and disseminates orientation packets
to inform new and reclaimed members of current
national issues and local chapter
issues.
- Maintains a register of visiting sorority
members from each monthly Chapter meeting. Promotes
reclamation by directing follow-up communication to
visiting sorority members.
- Collects suggestions or concerns from Chapter
members to improve chapter
communication.
- At the request and upon approval of the body,
the Membership Committee shall organize a Chapter
Retreat to address Chapter issues, promote Chapter
growth and foster sisterhood within the
Chapter.
- Presents recommendations to the Chapter to
sponsor Membership Intake.
Assist
other Committees with reclamation related
activities.
NOMINATING
The
nominating Committee is comprised of seven (7) members
appointed by the Executive Committee, which includes the
Nominating Chair, who is elected. Each member of the
Executive Committee, recommends one(1) member to the
Chapter President. Members of the Nominating Committee
shall not be a candidate for any elected office. The
committee is responsible for reviewing the
qualifications of those chapter members who express the
intent to run for an elected position in accordance with
the rules and bylaws of the Grand Chapter of Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc.
PAST PRESIDENTS
COUNCIL
This committee is composed of all
past presidents of the Chapter with the responsibilities
as follows:
- The chair will be appointed by the current
president
- To convene at the request of the current
president
- The committee shall report results of meetings
results to the current president
- To act as a resource bank and be available to
assist the President when called
upon
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
This committee is responsible for
promoting good physical and mental health of Deltas and
the community. Delta’s participate in events or
activities relating to health matters to accomplish
physical fitness and mental strengthening. Physical and
Mental Health also coordinates activities with other
Five Point Programmatic Thrust within the Chapter
related to Health Issues.
PROGRAM PLANNING AND
DEVELOPMENT
The committee is responsible for
planning and coordinating community service and economic
activities in accordance with Grand Chapter’s
Programmatic Thrust. Current Programs include the
following:
- Delta Academy/Delta Gems
- Project SEE
- Teen Town Hall Meeting
- Black Dollar Day
- Joy Woodfork Hair Salon
- The Ruth K. Hickman Delta Duds
Center
PROTOCOL
Keeps members abreast of National,
Regional and Local protocol included in the Delta
Doctrine. Serves as liaison to Founders' Day committee,
Membership Services committee (during membership intake)
and at request of the Chapter President.
RITUAL AND CEREMONIES
GUILD
The Guild is organized to care and
protect the ritual and ceremonies of our sorority at the
local level.
SCHOLARSHIP AND EDUCATION
SUPPORT
This committee is responsible for
coordinating and planning the process and the procedure
to be used by the Chapter to award a minimum of one (1)
Frederica Chase Dodd scholarship per year in the spring
to a young lady who is a high school graduating senior.
This committee will also coordinate May Week Activities
for the Chapter.
SOCIAL
This committee is responsible for
the Opening Party and Holiday Charity Gala/Activity.
Opening Party implements and organize a Chapter wide
activity to kick off a new sorority year. The purpose of
this activity is to reclaim new sorority members to the
Chapter and to develop activities which will captivate,
motivate and influence a spirit of readiness and
anticipation for the upcoming sorority year. The Holiday
Charity Gala is held in December. It's purpose is to
donate toys and mulitcultural children's books received
from all guests to give to local community service
outreach programs.
SOCIAL ACTION
The Social Action Committee plans
and implements programs/projects that encourages
proactive political awareness and readiness. The
committee's mission is to inform chapter members of
current events affecting our society on local, state,
and national levels and to ensure that our Chapter is
positioned and prepared to execute any and all
appropriate actions on important issues having far
reaching affects on our communities. Social Action
programs/projects have included:
The Social Action Committee has
established collaborations with other civic and
community organizations such as League of Women Voters
of Dallas, Urban League of Greater Dallas, African
American Pastor's Coalition and the North Dallas Chapter
of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Coordinates special projects as
requested by the Chapter President.
TASPers
TASPers is a youth group sponsored
by the Dallas Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta
Sorority, Inc. Gladys Collins organized it in 1965 as a
vehicle to involve young ladies, in the eighth through
twelfth grade in community projects and promote
activities which include Scholarship, the Arts, and
Educational endeavors. Through TASPers, Delta Sigma
Theta Sorority, Inc. seeks to help young ladies achieve
their personal goals by capturing their creative
energies and directing them toward personal
empowerment.
